What is TMS?

What is TMS?

TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. TMS is an FDA approved procedure used to treat depression, OCD, chronic pain and smoking sensation. It is also used to treat other psychiatric and neurological conditions. It’s a non-invasive procedure which means no surgery is involved. TMS involves magnetic pulses targeting specific areas of your brain depending on what we are treating. During the procedure a stimulator is connected to a magnetic coil placed on the scalp. This stimulates neurons in the brain influencing neuronal activity and thereby activating targeted areas in the brain. A specifically designed coil is used through which magnetic pulses are delivered while the patient is comfortably seated in a recliner chair.
